Most Prominent Political Families in India:

It’s not just the ‘Mughals’ or the ‘Rajas’ of the history who are well known for ruling India for generations. Even after the inauguration of democracy in India there had been families who continue to shine in the political arena. In India the king rule vanished long ago, but the custom of following your guardian’s way didn’t vanish completely. Many of the politician families, who have their roots during the time of independence, are still in the limelight. Others may not have a past that rich but surely they are also in the scene since very long. Here are some of those Indian Politician families:

1.The Nehru-Gandhi Family: This enormous family tree starts from Motilal Nehru whose son later became the first prime minister of India and since then there is no stopping. Jawaharlal Nehru’s daughter, Indira Gandhi got married to Feroze Gandhi and the Gandhi family is flourishing still. There are no second thoughts on it being one of the most prominent politician families of India since Independence. The fifth and latest generation includes Rajiv Gandhi’s children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi and also Sanjay Gandhi’s son, Varun Gandhi.

2. The Bose family: The unforgettable leader of India, Subhash Chandra Bose is the root of this family. Not only our freedom fighter but his elder brother, Sarat Chandra Bose had an active role to play during the struggle for independence. Both of Sarat Chandra Bose’s held the post MP. Krishna Bose and Sugata Bose, MP’s from All India Trinamul Congress. The current finance minister in the Government of West Bengal, Amit Mitra also happens to be from the Bose family.

3.The Abdullah Family: The Abdullah Family of Jammu and Kashmir seems to go on for a long term. Within the Abdullah family, three generations had the honour of being the chief minister of the state namely Sheikh Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah and the current chief minister Omar Abdullah. Wife of Sheikh Abdullah was a Member of Parliament and another son was one of the MLAs. Omar Abdullah was also the former Union Minister before he held the post of Chief Minister.

4.The Yadav Family: The Yadav family of Uttar Pradesh may not have a long history in India’s political scene but surely it has a building future. The family came into the frame with Mulayam Singh Yadav, National President of Samajwadi party, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and former Defence Minister of India. Son of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav is the current chief minister of U.P. His wife also is a member of the Lok Sabha. The family includes Dharmendra Yadav, Shivpal Singh Yadav, Ram Gopal Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, Premlata Yadav and Aditya Yadav who hold different positions in different levels of the government.

There are many other families growing up as political families but is it going the right way? Isn’t the family interference snatching opportunities from the other deserving candidates who are just common people? The other side is also true; they have not inherited it but had been elected to the respective post. Every coin has two sides; therefore, the question hangs on with no particular answer.
